Next meeting: Tues, 14 April, discussing: landlord licensing, Poplar Harca, Holland Est, upcoming action

Please join us for our next meeting: 7-9pm, Tues, 14 April, at Unite Community Centre, basement St Georges Hall, 236 Cable Street, Shadwell, E1 0BL.

So the summer appears to be here – for now at least – so what better than to organise a day out in the sun campaigning for safe, secure and affordable housing – and to prevent the loss of what we have! The action will take place at the end of the month.

We’ll also be discussing how to grow and strategise the campaign against Poplar Harca’s business model of replacing social housing with unaffordable housing for rent and sale. It has already targeted the Leopold and Aberfeldy estates, and Chrisp Street market and the surrounding estates are up next.

We will also hear from residents from the Holland Estate, who are under threat of being kicked out of their homes in the name of regeneration. How can we support and educate each other?

And last but not least, the council is currently consulting on introducing a landlord licensing scheme. With the government trying to rush through legislation before the elections to limit its use, what can we do to help give the council the mandate to implement it regardless?

So please join us between: 7-9pm, Tues, 14 April, at Unite Community Centre, basement St Georges Hall, 236 Cable Street, Shadwell, E1 0BL. Agenda (subject to change:o)
